Mahali Sutra. (Mahàli sutta) 1. Thus I heard. At one time, the Blessed One was staying at Vesali in the Chong Cac auditorium, in the Dai Lam forest. At that time, a large number of Brahmin messengers from Kosala and Magadha countries were staying at Vesali on some business. Those messengers were heard as follows: "Bhikkhus, the recluse Gotama is a Sakyamuni, ordained from the Sakya clan, and is currently residing in Vesali, in the Chongcang auditorium, in the Great Forest. The following good news was spread about the recluse Gotama: "He is the World Honored One, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened One, the Perfectly Enlightened One, the Well-Knowing, the World-Speaking One, the Unsurpassed One, the Master of the Master. , the Divine Sphinx, the Buddha, the World-Honored One. He has realized for himself this world with the celestial world, the demon world, the brahma world, with the recluses, brahmins, gods and humans, self-realize and then make it known to all species. He preaches the Dharma in the beginning, good, in the middle, good in the end, which means it is written, and presents the holy life completely and completely. 2. Those Brahmin messengers in Kosala and in Magadha went to the lecture hall in the Great Forest. At that time, the venerable Nàgita was the attendant of the Blessed One. Those Brahmin messengers in Kosala and Magadha went to Venerable Nàgita's residence and said: - Venerable Nàgita, where is Venerable Gotama now, we want to see Venerable Gotama. "Friends, now is not the time to see the Blessed One." The World-Honored One is still. The Brahmin messengers at Kosala and Magadha sat down at one side and said, "After we have seen the Venerable Gotama, we will go." 3. The Licchavi Otthadda (Rabbit Lips) along with a large number of Licchavi people also went to the Chong All lecture halls and forests of Dai Lam to meet the Venerable Nàgita, pay homage to him and then stand to one side. Otthadda the Licchavi said to the venerable Nàgita: - Where is the Blessed One, the Arahant, the Perfect Enlightenment now, we want to see the Blessed One, the Arahant, the Fully Enlightened One. -Mahali, now is not the time to see the Blessed One, the Blessed One is still alone. Otthadda the Licchavi immediately sat down to one side at that place and said: - After meeting with the Blessed One, Arahant, and Perfectly Enlightened One, I went. 4. At that time, Sa-di Sìha came to the Venerable Nàgita, bowed to the Venerable and stood to one side. After standing to one side, Sa-di Sìha said to the Venerable Nàgita: - White Venerable Kassapa (Ca-Lettuce) a large number of Brahmin messengers in Kosala and Magadha have come here to see the Blessed One; Otthada the Licchavi also came here with a large number of Licchavi people to see the Blessed One. Venerable Kassapa, it would be good if these people could see the Blessed One. - So, Sìha, please speak to the Blessed One. - Yes, Venerable Sir! Sa-di Sìha obeyed the teachings of Venerable Nàgita, went to the place of the Blessed One, bowed to him and stood to one side. Sa-di Sìha, after standing to one side, immediately said to the Blessed One: - White Buddha, a large number of Brahmin messengers in Kosala and Magadha came here to see the Blessed One. Otthadda, the Licchavi and a large number of Licchavi people came here to see the Blessed One. It would be good if these people had an audience with the Blessed One! - Nay Sìha, please prepare a seat in the shade, in front of the vihara. - Yes, venerable sir! Sa-di Sìha obeyed the Buddha's teachings, arranged a seat in the shade in front of the vihara, and the Blessed One went out of the vihara and sat on the seat prepared in the shade, in front of the vihara. 5. Then the Brahmin messengers in Kosala and Magadha came to the Buddha's place, uttered friendly greetings and socializing with the Blessed One, and then sat down to one side. Otthadda the Licchavi along with a large number of Licchavi also came to the Buddha's place, bowed to him, and sat down to one side. After sitting down to one side, Otthadda the Licchavi said to the Blessed One: - Venerable, two or three days ago, Sunakkhatta, of the Licchavi family, came to my place and said to me: "Mahali, since I have lived near you Buddha, not longer than three years, I was able to see the beautiful celestial colors, amused and excited, but did not hear the beautiful heavenly sounds, amused and excited." World-Honored One, the heavenly sounds that Sunakkhatta of the Licchavi family did not hear, the beautiful and delightful heavenly sounds, excited, do not understand those celestial sounds are real or not real? - O Mahàli, the heavenly sounds that Sunakkhatta of the Licchavi family did not hear, the beautiful, interesting, and exciting sounds, those heavenly sounds are real, not nonexistent. 6. - World-Honored One, because of what causes, what conditions, the heavenly sounds that Sunakkhatta, the Licchavi family did not hear, the heavenly sounds are beautiful, interesting, exciting, those heavenly sounds are real, not not. Have. "There is, Mahàli, a bhikkhu who cultivates in one direction, facing east with the aim of seeing beautiful, delightful, and exhilarating celestial colors, but not for the purpose of hearing beautiful, delightful, and exhilarating celestial sounds. . Because this one cultivates in one direction, facing the East with the purpose of seeing the beautiful, interesting, and exhilarating celestial colors, but not for the purpose of hearing the beautiful, pleasant, excited celestial sounds, so he can see to the east the beautiful, pleasant, and exhilarating celestial colors, but he does not hear the beautiful, delightful, and exhilarating celestial sounds. Why? This, Mahàli, is because this bhikkhu, while meditating in one direction, is facing the East, only for the purpose of seeing heavenly colors, beautiful, pleasant, and exhilarating, but not for the purpose of hearing heavenly sounds, beautiful and delightful. , exciting. 7. Again, this Mahàli, there is a Male-stilts who practice in one direction, towards the South... to the West... to the North... Above, Below, Horizontally, for the purpose of seeing the celestial beings. color, beauty, pleasure, excitement, but not for the purpose of hearing the heavenly sounds, beautiful, delightful, excited. This one cultivates in one direction, towards Up, Down, Horizontally, for the purpose of seeing the heavenly colors, beautiful, interesting, excited, but not for the purpose of hearing the heavenly sounds, beautiful, interesting, excited. start, so he can see above, below, horizontally, the beautiful celestial colors, interested, excited, but not hear the beautiful celestial sounds, interested, excited. Why? Because this bhikkhu, while meditating in one direction, directed upwards, downwards, horizontally, only for the purpose of seeing beautiful, pleasing, and exhilarating colors, but not for the purpose of hearing beautiful celestial sounds. wonderful, delightful, exhilarating. 8. This Mahàli, there is a Male-stilts who practice in one direction, towards the East for the purpose of listening to the beautiful celestial sounds, interested and excited, but not for the purpose of seeing the beautiful celestial colors, interested, excited. start. Since this monk practices in one direction, facing the East for the purpose of hearing beautiful, delightful, and exhilarating celestial sounds, but not for the purpose of seeing beautiful, pleasant, and exhilarating celestial colors, he listens. to the East, beautiful and delightful heavenly sounds, exciting. Why? Because this bhikkhu, while cultivating concentration in one direction, is facing the East, only for the purpose of hearing beautiful heavenly sounds, delighting and exhilarating, but not for the purpose of seeing beautiful, pleasing colors. excited, excited. 9. Again, this Mahàli, there are Male-stilts who practice in one direction, towards the South... towards the West... towards the North... Above, Below, Horizontal for the purpose of listening to the gods wonderful sound, excited excitement. Because this person practices in one direction, towards Above, Below, and Horizontally for the purpose of hearing the beautiful, delightful, and exhilarating celestial sounds, but not for the purpose of seeing the heavenly, beautiful, interesting, and exciting sounds. , so he hears, Above, Below, Horizontally, the beautiful heavenly sounds, interested, excited, but cannot see the beautiful celestial colors, interested, excited. Why? Hey Mahali, for this bhikkhu, while cultivating in one direction, directed upwards, downwards, and horizontally only for the purpose of hearing beautiful heavenly sounds, interested and excited, but not for the purpose of seeing beautiful and delightful celestial colors. , exciting. 10. Hey Mahàli, there are Male-stilts who practice in two directions, facing the East for the purpose of seeing the beautiful heavenly colors, interested, excited and for the purpose of listening to the beautiful, interesting, and excited celestial sounds. Because the monk meditates in two directions, facing the East for the purpose of seeing the beautiful, delightful, and exhilarating celestial colors and for the purpose of hearing the heavenly sounds, beautiful, delightful, and exhilarating, he turns towards the East. You can see beautiful celestial colors, enjoy and be excited, and hear beautiful, delighted, excited celestial sounds. Why? Because this bhikkhu, while cultivating twofold concentration, turns to the East for the purpose of seeing beautiful and pleasing celestial colors, excited and for the purpose of hearing heavenly sounds, beautiful, delightful, exhilarating. 11. Hey Mahàli, there is a Male-stilts who practice in two directions, towards the South... to the West... to the North... to the Top, Bottom, Horizontal, for the purpose of seeing the beautiful celestial colors. wondrous, delightful, exhilarating, and for the purpose of hearing beautiful, delightful, exhilarating celestial sounds. Because he practices in two directions, facing Up, Down, and Horizontal with the purpose of seeing beautiful, pleasant, and exhilarating celestial colors, and for the purpose of hearing beautiful, delightful, and exhilarating celestial sounds, this monk towards Up, Down, Horizontally, see the beautiful celestial colors, enjoy, get excited and hear the beautiful celestial sounds, enjoy, excited. Why why? Because this bhikkhu, while practicing concentration in two directions, is directed upward, downward, and horizontal, with the aim of seeing beautiful, delightful, and exhilarating celestial colors, and for the purpose of listening to heavenly sounds, amused, excited. Mahāli, because of this cause, because of this condition, those celestial sounds are real, not non-existent. 12. - White World Religion, so do you want to witness the meditative dharmas that the Male-stilts live the holy life, under the guidance of the Blessed One? "Mahāli, it is not in order to realize these meditative practices that the bhikkhus live the holy life, under my instruction. There are, Mahàli, other dhammas more sublime, more sublime. Because they want to realize these dharmas, the bhikkhus live the holy life, under my instruction. 13.-White World Honored One, what are these dharmas, nobler, more superior, that the Male-stilts want to be able to witness to live the holy life, under the guidance of the Blessed One? "Here, Mahàli, a bhikkhu has put an end to the three fetters, becomes a stream-enterer, does not fall into evil destinations, and is certain to attain Bodhi. This dharma, Mahàli, is nobler and more sublime, because in order to realize it, the bhikkhus live a holy life under my instruction. Again, Mahàli, a bhikkhu who has put an end to the three fetters, alleviates greed, hatred, and delusion, becomes a First-Returner, and must be reborn in this life again before suffering is completely eliminated. This dhamma, Mahàli, is nobler and more sublime. Because they want to realize this Dharma, the Male-stilts live the holy life, under my instruction. Again, Mahàli, a bhikkhu has ended the five lower fetters, has attained a transmigration, has entered Nirvana here, and no longer has to return to this world. This dharma, Mahali, is nobler and more sublime. Because they want to realize this Dharma, the Male-stilts live the holy life under my instruction. These noble and sublime dharmas, Mahàli, in order to realize them, the bhikkhus live the holy life under my instruction. 14. "World-Honored One, is there any path, any path leading to the realization of these dharmas?" "Mahāli, there is a way, there is a path leading to the realization of these dhammas. "World-Honored One, is there any path, any path leading to the realization of these dharmas?" This is the Noble Path with eight branches: Right View, Right Thought, Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, and Right Concentration. This, Mahali, this path, this path leads to the realization of those dhammas. 15. Hey Mahàli, a time I was in Kosambi Ghositàràma garden. At that time, two people left home. Mandissa a wanderer and Jàliya a disciple of Dàrupattika, came to the place where I was staying, uttered greetings of friendship and courtesy to Me, and then stood to one side. After standing on one side, the two monastics said to me as follows: - Hey sage, life and body are one or the other? - Hey, sage, listen and be attentive, I will say. - Yes, Sage! The two monastics answered me like that and I said the following: 16. - Hey sage, here the Tathagata was born, an Arahant, Chief Enlightenment ... (similar to the "Sa" sutra -subject results", paragraph 41-82) ... This sage, so the Male-stilts accomplished the conduct ... evidence and stay in the first meditation. Friend, when a bhikkhu knows this, sees it like this, is he ready to address the issue of 'Are the life-sense and the body the same or different'? Friend, a bhikkhu knows this, seeing it like that, he is ready to address the issue of "Are the life-sense and the body one or the other". Friend, although I know this, I do not say: "Life faculty and body are one or the other". 17. Witness and stay in the second meditation... the third meditation... the fourth meditation. Friend, when a bhikkhu knows this, sees it thus, Is he willing to address the issue of "Are the life-sense and the body one or the other"? Friend, a bhikkhu knows this, seeing that he is ready to address the issue of "Are the life-sense and the body one or the other". Friend, although I know this and see it like that, I don't say "Life faculty and body are one or the other". 18. The Male-stilts that direct the mind, leading the mind to tri views. Friend, when a bhikkhu knows this, sees it like this, is he ready to address the question: "Are the life-sense and the body the same or different"? Friend, a bhikkhu knows this, sees it thus, and is ready to address the question: "Are the life-sense and the body one or the other".
